WOW, the 80's!! I vividly remember watching the premier of Thriller on mtv, listening to my Bad cassette tape (yes, cassette tape) non-stop, dancing like a ‘Maniac’ in the living room to the Flashdance soundtrack and wearing my Mary Lou Retton leotard to dance class. i desperately wanted to dress like Madonna, be a back up dancer for Paula Abdul, and move like MC Hammer…but I was too young.
it’s these memories (and my obsessive love of MJ) that gave birth to desir80s, my homage to the most colorful decade in history. i have taken all of the awesome elements of the 80s, including the outrageous fashions, infectious music, and out-of-control dances and rolled them into one giant neon ball of fitness fun. in a typical hour of desir80s you will hear chart topping music from the 80s, more than likely learn the running man, the roger rabbit, or the Kid N’ Play and bear witness to my fabulous (if I do say so myself) 80s wardrobe.
so, whether you live in Atlanta, or you're just visiting, grab your quirky 80s gear and head on over to desir80s atdance101, where I’ll give you a whole serving of fitness fun, with a nice slice of 80s cheese.
Don't you just love the 80's?! Of course you do.

HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training. No description needed, but in case you do need one...a study done in 1996 by Dr. Izumi Tabata, found that short bursts of ultra-intense exercise interspersed with short rest periods burned more fat, improved performance and increased aerobic capacity better than exercise done at a steady state. This class is not for the faint of heart. A typical class consists of a 15 minute active warm up, followed by 30 minutes of H.I.I.T. (rest periods and water breaks are included), and concluded with a 10 minute cool down and stretch. This class is strongly encouraged for those who like to work hard and strongly discouraged for those new to exercise. Desiree, a top-level fitness competitor and life-long fitness enthusiast will guide you through this fierce workout.
**IMPORTANT NOTE** It is recommended that you do NOT take this class on an empty stomach, and it is recommended that you ARE hydrated before the start of class.

As you kn
ow, personal fitness programs, and personal fitness instructors, are varying and wide ranging, and serve a worldwide population. However, you should also know that when you select a personal fitness instructor to work with you, the rest of the population doesn’t matter. Your are unique; your body is unique; therefore, your personal fitness program should also be unique. You should never accept a ‘one size fits all’ philosophy from your instructor. A good client-trainer relationship should involve three key elements: 1) Effective communication between client and trainer; 2) A solid commitment from client and trainer; 3) A well-designed, intense yet enjoyable, uplifting, health and fitness regimen. These 3 elements should result in a more effective plan which benefits both the client and the instructor. These 3 elements are the hallmark of Desiree’s health-and-fitness training philosophy.
As a fitness and dance instructor, Desiree uses positive reinforcement and a broad range of fitness disciplines, to make physical fitness a fun activity rather than a tedious chore. Whether resistance training, cardiovascular training, or flexibility training, Desiree develops fresh routines that are individualized for each client to fit their activity, health, and lifestyle needs. For Desiree, fitness training is less a job, and more a passion. To Set up a session, fill out the contact form on the contact page.
Professional-sports dance teams and cheerleaders are a hot commodity. Tryouts can often be filled with an international group of men and women vying for a chance to make the team. Being a professional cheerleader and dancer can be a glorious experience and leave you with life-long memories. Performing in front of tens of thousands sports fans in packed arenas, stadiums, theaters, and other venues around the world is exhilarating, and entertaining our troops on military bases across the U.S. and overseas is as rewarding as anything you will ever do. Why not be part of it?
Team tryouts are probably happening right under your nose without you knowing it. There may be more sports teams and leagues than you realize, and most of have some kind of cheer/dance squad: NFL, NBA, NHL, AFL, MLS, WNBA, Single, Double, and Triple-A baseball, IFL, MLL, and the list goes on. Research your favorite team, sport or sports league, to find out if they have a dance or cheerleading team. And don’t worry, most often you don’t even have to live in the same city (or the same state) where the team is located.
If you decide this is something you would like to do, preparation is paramount. With members returning from the previous season, and other men and women vying to become the newest members, roster spots are limited. But if you have what it takes, there is a team out there awaiting your arrival.
As a former NBA cheerleader/dancer, and a current official fitness trainer for the Atlanta Hawks Cheerleaders, Desiree offers choreography for your tryout; fitness training to make sure your body is toned, flexible, athletic, and durable; and image consultation to make sure you have ‘the look‘ when tryout week arrives. When you tryout; standout!

Ahh, the first dance as husband and wife. What should be a moment of relaxation and tenderness with your new spouse, often turns out to be a moment of fear and extreme anxiety for many. Believe it or not, just as many people are nervous about that dreaded 'first dance' as they are about their impending nuptials. It's understandable; it's like that feeling you get when speaking in front of a crowd -- you know every eyeball in the room is peering at you while you're trying to concentrate on the moment at hand. It can a be nerve wracking experience...but it doesn't have to be.
With a little preparation, you and your significant other can burn up the dance floor with a hint of arrogance. Well, If nothing else, you can at least warm it up with a heaping helping of confidence. And no, the solution is not trying to picture everyone naked (though I guess that couldn't hurt), but rather the mastering of a few well-choreographed moves. With forethought and preparation your wedding dances can be some of the most enjoyable and memorable moments of your big day. And when you top it off with a flash-mob style wedding-party dance, you will have everyone dancing in the aisle.
So, face that 'first dance' with confidence and eagerness. Let Desiree help make those wedding dances, unforgettable wedding dazzlers.
